About Mozilla
Mozilla's Thunderbolt team is building an open-source, cross-platform AI product inside the Thunderbird ecosystem. Thunderbolt aims to give people and organizations control of their data, infrastructure, and model choices and is moving from early development into enterprise use cases. The team is 8 people, within the ~60-person company behind Thunderbird, the open-source email client used by 20M+ people.
Job Description
You will own features end to end for Thunderbolt, from concept through launch, adoption, and iteration. You will work full-stack on AI powered chat, search, research, workflow automation, admin, and integrations. The role requires 10+ years of engineering experience at Staff scope with hands-on AI product work (LLMs, RAG, agents, retrieval, model/provider abstraction) and comfort with ambiguity as architecture and enterprise requirements are still being defined. Bonus: experience with self-hosted or regulated deployments and familiarity with EU AI Act / GDPR / SOC 2. Must reside in and have work authorization for the US or Canada. No sponsorship.
