Software Engineer
About Red Balloon Security
Red Balloon Security is a security research and engineering firm focused on securing embedded devices. They work with partners across critical industries and government-funded programs (e.g., DARPA). The team emphasizes hands-on reverse engineering, firmware analysis, OS/kernel security, and developing tooling and demos for conferences.
Job Description
Full-time Software Engineer role embedded in a security-focused team. Youβll contribute to building scalable servers for processing device telemetry, patching RTOS kernel functions to enforce integrity without violating real-time constraints, and developing tooling around embedded devices and firmware. The work blends low-level systems programming with practical security research, including reverse engineering when needed and maintaining open-source tooling. Collaboration with researchers to demonstrate secure, robust solutions for critical infrastructure is expected. This role shares the same location dynamics as the Researcher role: NYC-based and Northern Virginia-based offices with onsite/hybrid options. US citizenship is required; security clearance is a bonus.Loading...
